3 & Out - Phillip Rivers is BACK, Is Jordan Love a legit MVP candidate, time to move on from Harbaugh

What’s up everybody, John Middlekauff here on 3 and Out. Quick plan for today: Philip Rivers is back in our lives and I’ve got a big mailbag, so let’s dive in.

Rivers returning at forty-four makes me grin; he’s been coaching high school, speaking Steichen’s language, and I’ve missed his personality in football.

The risk is real though: years away, limited mobility, modest arm, and a nasty run of defenses like Seattle and San Francisco can get ugly fast.

This is a desperation swing I respect more than signing a random practice-squad QB, and you know that call had to light a fire in Rivers like one last ride.

Mailbag: Bills needs. I’d pour resources into the defensive front and worry about beating New England this week, because pass rush is the easiest way to lift that defense.

NIL and scholarships. The scholarship is basically a given now; the real negotiation is cash, and revenue sharing will make the walk-on distinction fade.

Where I rank C.J. Stroud. That Chiefs game was big-time; I see a steady top-ten guy for years with a Dak-like baseline if they keep building around him.

Fernando’s draft stock. After Oregon and then Ohio State, he jumped from interesting to likely first overall: big frame, big arm, high character, a little nerdy in a good way.

Can the Giants become the NFC East standard soon. Let’s crawl before we sprint; the Eagles still set the bar.

Cash out the Jordan Love MVP ticket or ride. If you don’t need the small profit, let it roll through Denver for the entertainment; one good game could juice that ticket.

Picking a college team as a Lions fan. Michigan is the simple fit, but if you want a non-front-runner, Utah brings yearly toughness and playoff chances while Vanderbilt is a fun NIL upside bet.

Halftime adjustments. Coaches adjust every series, so halftime is mostly regrouping and sharpening what you already shifted on the fly.

C.J. narrative vs. Caleb. The Chiefs performance felt like a turning point, and yes, I’ve got division parlays riding with Houston, Denver, Green Bay, Seattle, and Tampa while hoping Jacksonville slips.

CFP committee worried about Tulane or James Madison winning. They’re not losing sleep over that.

Holding John Harbaugh accountable. Coaches prop up shaky lines to keep confidence high; miss the playoffs and the heat rises, but recent seeding and title-game runs buy him leeway.

If the Giants land the top pick, trade back. Best case is only one star QB declares to spur a bidding war, which means losing out helps your leverage.

Jalen Hurts vs. Tanner McKee. Hurts is locked in by contract and stature; expect tweaks to weapons and line, not a changing of the guard.

Dark-horse Super Bowl teams. The Texans defend well in a soft AFC and the Niners are dangerous, but as a wildcard San Francisco’s defense limits their margin even if no one wants to play them.

How stuck are the Colts. At eight and five you shoot your shot with Rivers, but the reality is they’re probably too banged up to finish the climb.

Shadour in a draft redo. Without the do-not-draft stance he lands on day two, because QB inflation now pushes solid starters into the range of picks twenty to fifty.

Why I moved from scouting to media. After my Eagles stint ended I chased the lane where I control more of my future, with huge help from Guy Haberman and Colin, and I’ve learned independence lets you be honest without partners policing your takes.
