Welcome to the Friday mailbag, rolling right out of our Jokic MVP debate into more on his place in history, and yes, I still think Denver could see San Antonio in round two and we might land on a Celtics–Nuggets Finals.

Is the Jokic hype jumping too far into the Steph and Hakeem tier when he’s really had two great playoff runs and recent early exits?

Top five all-time is too far today, but he’s clearly past Giannis and Durant because he was the undeniable engine on his title team while KD’s rings came in a different context. I’ve got him around thirteen for now, and to crack that inner circle he needs more deep runs, which is why I point to the sheer playoff mileage of guys like Shaq and Hakeem and the way they stacked dominant Finals.

Do you think we’ll ever see another repeat champion in the NBA?

Probably, but it’s getting harder as talent rises and the league deepens, which is why the era leaders in rings have trended down from Russell to LeBron and Steph. A three-peat feels unlikely, though I won’t rule it out with how quickly a young core like OKC could pile wins.

Champions often slump the next year, but OKC looks strong after winning—are they the exception?

Regular-season heaters have fizzled in round two lately, so let’s see it in May before we crown them.

If Andy Reid retired, would you want a young up-and-comer or a proven vet for Mahomes?

I’d go get Kyle Shanahan, and I’d listen if Sean McVay’s situation shifted, but I don’t want a first-time head coach during Mahomes’s prime because that job would be one of the best ever.

What would the Chiefs need to do in 2026 to say the dynasty didn’t end in 2025?

Make the AFC title game again, which would be seven straight and keep the run intact, since one off year followed by an early exit starts to feel like a new chapter. I split the Patriots into two dynasties for that reason, even if some roll the whole thing together.

Can Caleb Williams overtake Mahomes as the most physically talented quarterback?

He can, and that’s separate from being the best; the biggest arms to me are Josh, Caleb, and Patrick, with different running styles and creativity. Mahomes still separates himself with elite pre-snap work and accuracy.

Who are the next three quarterbacks to win their first Super Bowls?

Josh Allen is my clear pick, with Lamar in the mix and young options like Caleb—and maybe Purdy or Drake Maye—as real possibilities. I don’t see Burrow doing it in Cincinnati right now, and I don’t trust the Chargers around Herbert.

What’s the importance of sports in life right now?

Sports give people a needed break and, in a world arguing over basic facts, a rare place where we agree on the result before we debate the why. My dad once told me that talking ball helps folks doing hard, important work have better days, and I’ve carried that with me.

I wouldn’t, because I don’t want to look washed on TV; Broussard once really played, and Wildes can hoop, but I’d still tell the crew to pass and let me coach instead.
