About this episode
"DID I MISS IT?" Nick Wright and Pablo have a legitimately uneasy tension inside "Pablo's studio." Their argument over who's an actual journalist is so awkward that the Shipping Container does what it can to derail the segment, but Dan, as he is wont to do, powers through regardless of their advice. Episode summary
There’s a real edge in here today, and I’m not sure how to handle it. Nick’s in the room, the Chiefs have him wobbling, and now I’m finding out Pablo thought I lifted a ban without telling him, which I didn’t even know existed.
I never believed I was actually banned; it felt like an online stunt. Pablo invited me back plenty after that, and when your team asked me to pop in while you were here, I said yes immediately and made clear I’d do it regardless of Pablo being around.
It’s hard to tell if we’re beefing because Nick turns the charm up with Dan, and I’m trying to build a space where acquaintances become friends. What I won’t accept is calling everything that isn’t a reported episode ‘filler,’ because a great hang with smart people has value too.
I respect that your show’s identity is deep reporting, and I don’t want to be a time-kill hang. I believe I could do what you do if I devoted myself to it, and I don’t think you could do what I do—call it a belief, not a fact, if the phrasing bugged you.
That’s not just cocky; it misreads the lanes. Lots of people try your lane and you’re excellent, but I work in both spaces and won’t just take your word for it—show the receipts if you say you can report at that level.
We’ve burned a lot of minutes here, but it’s compelling because you’re both elite at different things. The room’s buzzing, even tossing in random baseball updates to shove us along, and I still put up a poll asking who’s the better hang.
If you want a receipt, I broke the Adrian Peterson case in Houston with the police report and audio, which helped trigger a new grand jury and a season suspension. That told me I could do the job if I truly wanted to, but I don’t want to.
Alright, pivot: Nick, you rolled onto TV on a gurney and tried to light a cigarette for your tiers bit, and now the Chiefs have humbled you in a way that oddly makes you relatable. How much of this pain is the money and how much is your pride?
The bit happened, and the losing streak has softened my edges on air. I’ve been buried on consecutive big bets, even drove to Philly for a long poker grind to win some back, and the sting is both financial and emotional—pressed bets, mounting losses, and the weirdness of rooting for the Eagles while still doubting Jalen Hurts.
Since we’re airing it out, Nick texted me that Zas is an all-time dope, and for the record, the update guy is not a reporter.
On the LeBron take, it’s simple: tie game, four seconds, he has the ball. If the streak mattered more, he shoots; by passing, he put winning first, which makes the ‘he wanted a miss’ theory nonsensical.
He was four-for-seventeen; it looked like he wasn’t chasing the number, which is why I said what I said.
We end up laughing at a Mad Dog clip that somehow gets worse after the dribble, and then I try to toss to Jessica for a button that never arrives—so we just drift out of it.
