Episode summary
Welcome to Sharper Square, the show that sharpens the squares and makes the wise guys listen. I’m Chad Millman, here with my BFF and co‑host, pro bettor Simon Hunter.
Chad, what a week of football.
Quick victory lap: the Panthers cashed our brass balls play with Bryce Young making the late play we needed, and I’m heading to Atlanta after good vibes for my Hoosiers.
The Panthers game was a messy, weather-soaked grind that reminded me why outdoor football in winter rocks, while the Bucs offense vanished and the 49ers laid a rare egg against Seattle.
Contest lines are dynamic, so here’s where we stand, starting with New Orleans plus three and a half at Atlanta; Olave is out, the stakes are tangled with playoff implications, and you’ve got rookie futures on the line, Simon—how are you playing it?
Atlanta looks healthier and the Saints miss Olave, but we locked in the Saints with the hook, hoping for a fast start and a grind from there even if the number floats higher.
Cleveland at Cincinnati, Bengals minus seven and a half is our rock; Burrow’s been torching teams outside that Ravens dud and he’ll try to empty the clip today.
I’m with it—Cleveland’s been awful after wins against the spread, they’re banged up on offense, and this feels like a Bengals finish-strong script that could push to eight or more.
Detroit plus three and a half at Chicago makes me nervous, but we’re on the Lions even as money shows up on the Bears.
It’s a buy-low on Detroit and a sell on Chicago’s high-variance defense, and with the hook I expect Dan Campbell to lean hard on the run and try to outscore them.
Arizona at the Rams is our pivot; we locked seven and a half early and the market exploded to thirteen and a half, so we’re sitting on major value.
I still like the Rams’ approach here since McVay won’t coast and Stafford’s chasing marks, but the real edge is our ticket at the earlier number.
Baltimore at Pittsburgh, Steelers plus three and a half with Lamar in; I’m leaning Tomlin dog with the hook and I don’t trust this Ravens defense.
These matchups skew to dogs long term, the market may tick to four, and we’re banking on the Steelers defense and Tomlin’s voodoo even with offensive injuries.
Washington at Philadelphia dropped to four with Tanner McKee starting, and the Eagles love him, which makes this tempting.
I like Philly with vets still playing and Fangio dialing it up, McKee has that big, sturdy deep-ball profile, and Washington looks checked out as the number creeps up.
Dallas at the Giants is puzzling since sharp money keeps pulling it to three even though Dallas is motivated and New York has draft order risk.
Pros are on the Giants but I still prefer Dallas at the key number, even if that means I’m riding with the public against a rival they’ve owned.
Our final five: Saints plus three and a half, Bengals minus seven and a half, Lions plus three and a half, Rams minus seven and a half, and Steelers plus three and a half; dynamic lines mean we locked early and we’re letting it ride.
