Inna Segal Talks About Understanding Modern Spirituality

I’m Roberta Grimes, delighted to welcome Ena Segal from Australia. Her book, Understanding Modern Spirituality, explores karma, soul evolution, spiritual hierarchies, and ego.

I became pregnant unexpectedly at nineteen and chose to keep my baby. At eight months, I felt something was wrong with the baby’s heart; the nurse dismissed me as anxious. When I gave birth, there was silence. I went into shock, believing something must be wrong with me.

Lying there afterward, I saw a feminine angel; warmth and love poured through me. Though grief returned, I felt I would use this to help people and needed to understand death. Later, during healing, that presence returned and my perception opened. But I wanted discernment, not every claim.

That healthy skepticism matters. If we’re open to every single thing, the brain can rather fall out. We need a way to tell what is real.

In a workshop, I silently saw a Spanish-speaking man as my brother in another life. Later, he described the same connection and recognized another soul tie in my life was not good. It gave me a sense of home—but soulmates aren’t necessarily romantic or permanent.

Eventually I found Rudolf Steiner through eurythmy. His books were difficult, and hearing my beliefs were incomplete was not fun. But they gave me structure: intuition must be developed and tested, not accepted because a message arrives. His work made my experiences make sense, including Christ’s promise that I’d travel, write, and help people.

The spiritual world is real, and we can encounter remarkable understanding here. We spend far more time there than in physical life, so why not become curious? Am I here only to survive, or to grow, learn, and evolve? Be open-minded, but discerning.

Discernment, darling, is so important. Ena’s book is beautiful and carefully organized for deep seekers. Remember: you are a powerful eternal being. You never truly began, you never end, and you are forever loved.
