Sharp or Square - NFL WEEK 16 REACTION - Bills-Browns, Jaguars-Broncos, Bucs-Panthers, Jets-Saints, Chargers-Cowboys and more

Great day, real playoff vibes in a bunch of spots. Biggest surprise to me was Jacksonville at Denver, because pros piled on the favorite and still got blown out.

Let’s start with Carolina, the game we’ve waited forever to bet. The Panthers’ defense punched all day, the crowd mattered, Bryce Young kept his poise, and Tetairoa McMillan made big-time grabs; down the stretch Bryce strung together clutch throws and legs, set up the go-ahead kick, and the defense iced it with a late pick.

Both lines showed up and that building finally felt like an edge again. I’d still lean McMillan in that rookie race right now, but beware the letdown spot they love to create; that said, they looked like the better team against Tampa.

Bills minus ten and a half against the Browns should have been a coast, and it wasn’t. Missed extra point, a dropped goal-line touchdown, a mystery tripping call, Browns injuries that didn’t flip the script, and a Bills offense that lost rhythm after half—made me wish for universal booth fixes on every close call.

I had Buffalo moneyline and still sweated it because Josh Allen was off in the second half. With the ground game humming we should have covered, but the Browns hung around and earned their number.

Jacksonville at Denver was the statement—we stuck with the dog while the market leaned the other way. Trevor Lawrence made off-platform lasers, used his legs in the red zone, managed the clock, even Superman-dived for a key first down, then cleaned up the procedural stuff that burned him earlier in the season; I’m back on the bandwagon.

The scheme sprung guys open, he stayed within it, and the defense throttled a comeback that usually materializes. There’s even a thin MVP path if they land the one seed; the Jags look complete.

Lions-Steelers unraveled on one absurd, tipped deep ball right before halftime that flipped the whole feel. Detroit’s offense cratered, gave up a safety, and could not get off the field on third down late; the Goff-as-MVP chatter never fit and today exposed it.

That’s classic Tomlin voodoo—ugly wins that make no sense on paper. Detroit outgained, outpossessed, then stepped on rakes and paid for it.

One to monitor: DK Metcalf appeared to swipe at a fan leaning over the rail, and a league response seems likely. As for the Lions, they felt stuck in mud all day; the NFC North is there for Chicago if this keeps up.

The league’s in a tough spot if he claims personal or racial abuse, but you still can’t touch fans. Security has to handle that, not players.

Games we skipped: we wisely passed Giants plus two and a half—total meltdown with fourth-down recklessness, turnovers, and a nullified pick-six; Minnesota closed it out. The one that stings is Raiders plus the big number against Houston—Geno’s early pick-six lulled me into keeping the Lions in the card and we missed a live dog that almost won outright.

That post-shutout trend popped again and the Raiders ran it well with chunk plays from the back. Texans were due for a flat spot and still survived, which makes the miss hurt more.

Tennessee over Kansas City was a moneyline flyer that never felt shaky; the Chiefs offense just isn’t scaring anyone when the defense sags and Minshue’s injury shut the door. Draft angle afterward: Giants and Raiders jockeying at the top, Browns and Jets nearby, and the Raiders may need a haul if they want Fernándo Mendoza at one.

If you believe he’s the guy, you can still find minus two hundred to go first and that price may only shorten. He’ll crush interviews, so whoever sits at one will have a decision to make.

Next week look-aheads that jumped: Carolina catching seven and a half at home versus Seattle, Raiders a small home dog to the Giants. Shame time—who you got?

Dallas. Another season of big talk, a game with nothing to play for, and a flat effort; all that swagger and back to dusting off the VHS tapes to relive the glory days.

My shame goes to the Lions for that final defensive series; a veteran quarterback and a new receiver picked their zones apart and they never adjusted. That felt like their season slipping away, because ten wins is probably the bar in the NFC.

Hero of the week is the Philadelphia Eagles. Back-to-back division titles for the first time since the early two thousands, AJ Brown and DeVonta smashing franchise pace, Hurts in the playoffs every year with a new coordinator, and Sirianni stacking rare company—plus eliminating Dallas early was delicious.

I’ve got a soft spot for Philly, but my hero is Caleb Williams: the Lions loss clinched the Bears a playoff spot, he dropped a late deep dime to DJ Moore with a depleted receiver room, and he spent the afternoon doing community work in a beanie before the comeback. Card recap and leans: we lost with Detroit and Buffalo, won with Jacksonville and Carolina, and are waiting on New England plus three and a half; early eyes on Washington and Minnesota as home dogs, Colts grabbing seven, Bears plus three, and I’ll take Tennessee if Saints hit three.
