About this episode
Nick Wright shares his predictions for Week 17 of the NFL season including Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills taking on Jalen Hurts' Philadelphia Eagles, Caleb Williams leading the Chicago Bears against Brock Purdy's San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Green Bay Packers in a game where Lamar Jackson and Jordan Love's status is up in the air, and, sadly, his Kansas City Chiefs taking on Bo Nix's Denver Broncos. Episode summary
Happy holidays, everybody. Do us a favor and subscribe on YouTube, iTunes, or Spotify—the subs help most. All lines are from Hard Rock Bet. Quick recap: I went three and two, highlighted by Tennessee covering against Kansas City and Jacksonville and New England coming through; Tampa burned me and the Dallas pick missed. That puts the season at 40–38–2, which I’ll gladly take. We’re taping on Tuesday with thin injury info, so I leaned into a classic approach: bet favorites early, underdogs closer to kickoff.
Christmas slate first: Detroit at Minnesota?
No play. I don’t know which Vikings QB we’ll see, and I’m not laying six with a Lions team that just took two gut punches. Next Christmas game, Denver at Kansas City: that number is wild. I can’t lay two touchdowns with Denver on a short week, and I’m not taking the Chiefs with their QB situation, so pass.
Houston at the Chargers?
I stared at L.A., but Houston’s defensive front versus that Chargers line is a nasty matchup. Chargers are still alive, Texans offense is unpredictable. Staying off it.
Baltimore at Green Bay?
Too much QB uncertainty on both sides. Pass.
Arizona at Cincinnati, and New Orleans at Tennessee?
Cincy hasn’t earned full-touchdown favorite respect, and Arizona can still score, so no thanks. I lean Saints, but I’m not sure if the Titans got a one-week bump or are finishing strong. Pass both.
Seattle at Carolina?
Would’ve grabbed Carolina with the seven and a half, but Seattle’s extra rest and Carolina’s eyes on next week’s divisional spot keep me off.
Tampa Bay at Miami, then New England at the Jets, Giants at Raiders, and Rams at Atlanta?
I’m still too annoyed to lay it with Tampa, so pass that. Jets getting a huge number is tempting, but I won’t take them or lay a big divisional road spread, so pass. Giants–Raiders feels like a draft-order game, no thanks. Rams–Atlanta number looks right, skip.
Let’s hit the five picks. Dallas at Washington, Cowboys minus six and a half.
Love it. If Washington’s down to Josh Johnson, they won’t move it. Dallas should score in bunches, and Dak’s had their number. Cowboys roll.
Jacksonville at Indy, Jags minus six and a half.
Rivers has been better than expected, but that Monday loss felt like the end of their push. Jags are chasing seeding, and they’ve crushed the AFC South lately. Under seven is key.
Pittsburgh at Cleveland, Steelers minus four.
It’s a divisional road lay, but Cleveland’s QB play has been rough. Pittsburgh can set up a stress-free Week 18 with a win; I’ll lay it.
Buffalo hosting Philly, Bills minus two and a half.
I think Buffalo’s better right now and they need it more. Philly’s likely locked into the two or three seed, so motivation tilts Bills plus home field.
Chicago at San Francisco, Bears plus three.
I like Chicago’s run game against that defense, and the rest edge helps. Live dog, I’ll take the field goal.
Teaser review and this week’s card?
Last week’s three-legger cashed. This week, I actually like your plus-100: Philly up to ten and a half, Jags up to plus one and a half, Bears up to eleven. I don’t love teasing through zero, but I still grade it an A given Jags’ urgency.
Got a Christmas Day parlay for the three games?
Yup, a six-point ‘all favorites’ teaser at plus 140: Dallas down to minus a half, Detroit to a pick’em, Denver to minus seven.
Following incentives: Darnold needs yards and TDs. Offer is 200-plus passing and two-plus touchdowns at plus 140 against Carolina. You in?
I’m taking it, and Hard Rock Bet will post it as a Nick Wright exclusive. Add JSN anytime touchdown around even money as a bonus. Merry Christmas, enjoy the games, and we’ll see you on TV this week and back here on Tuesday.
