Episode summary

Hey, it’s your friend Mel—I’ve been dying to talk to you, and I brought a ridiculous office story that explains why life feels heavier than it should and what we’re going to do about it.

One of our producers kept two working double A batteries in her pocket, swapping them between the remote, candles, scale, and keyboard, which is exactly how we treat life admin—we move problems around instead of fixing them.

Life admin is the calls, returns, forms, and fixes that trail you into the weekend and steal your energy, and today we’re taking one weekday to clear it in a single, focused Life Admin Day.

This is normal and you can handle it; pick a date—Monday if you can—and claim it for you, not for cleaning and not for everyone else.

Ground rules: no decluttering, make your space as quiet as possible, put your needs first, and drop the shame.

The night before, do a full brain dump and highlight five to ten priorities; research shows writing unfinished tasks down lightens worry and helps your brain switch off.

From nine to eleven, it’s the call block—book appointments starting head to toe, then your stuff, then other people, and when you can, schedule the whole year so future you is set.

Print your calendar to avoid screen distractions, stay in the chair if you’re prone to wandering, and while you’re on hold, knock out tiny seated chores.

From eleven to one, run the errands you never fit in—think DMV, TSA precheck, oil change, donations—and stick to a short list on a post it note so you do not detour.

From one to three, do the money block: print bank and card statements, highlight recurring charges and fees, note renewals, and start canceling what no longer deserves your cash.

Make a simple folder with those highlights so you can chip away at cancellations whenever you have a few minutes.

From three to four, clear your inbox and apps—unsubscribe hard, cancel what you do not use, and take your attention back.

Finish by scheduling your next Life Admin Day so this becomes an easy, repeatable rhythm.

Expect big relief: a year of maintenance booked, stalled tasks finished, weekends lighter, and that calm feeling that you’re back in charge.

Tell me what’s been haunting you and what you’re finally tackling, and share this with the people whose admin you usually end up doing so they can run their own day.

I’m cheering for you, I care about you, and I know you’ve got this—one intentional day can change how the rest of the week, and the season, feels.
