Sharp or Square - Sharp NFL Playoffs Divisional Bets: Bills-Broncos, Niners-Seahawks, Texans-Patriots, Rams-Bears

Welcome to Sharper Square, part of The Volume. I’m Chad Millman with my compadre Simon Hunter, locked in for our Thursday Wild Card episode to narrow down five picks—and yes, I’m amped, counting down to Bears–Rams and flying to Hard Rock Stadium for the Hoosiers in the national title game.

Before we dive in, we’ve got to pour one out for Mike Tomlin. Nineteen years, never a losing season, and somehow he’s out the door; rights retained, maybe TV for a beat, but the league just got flipped.

Tomlin was a money printer and a clinic in patience and turnovers with mediocre QBs; owners chasing greener grass never learn, just ask the Titans about Vrabel.

Ravens ownership handled the presser like a boss—listen to players, but the power sits upstairs. Pittsburgh looks calm; Baltimore’s move felt emotional.

Sharp Calls: who’s going to work for us this weekend?

Pros hit 49ers at seven and a half and Patriots minus three; Bears–Rams and Bills–Broncos are split. Totals saw early sharp interest—first half under in Bears–Rams, an over nibble on Bills–Broncos that dried up after receiver injuries.

Bills–Broncos flipped to Buffalo; on paper both should run, which leans under, but the fourth quarter chaos scares me off a contest side.

Weather’s fine in Denver, but a rare playoff line-flip trend points against the new favorite; Josh Allen’s banged up and down to a thin WR room, so I’m sizing down even though I grabbed Denver early.

Bottom line, the total’s more interesting than the side here; not one of our contest plays.

Seahawks at 49ers moved from seven and a half to seven, total nudged down; I like the under with a conservative Sam Darnold script and a banged-up Niners offense.

Some pros bet the over, but I’m with the under and grabbed Seattle plus seven and a half in a familiar divisional fight; Shanahan’s playoff record is elite, yet this still profiles as tight.

Low total plus a big spread screams something like twenty four seventeen; Shanahan can scheme enough, but that hook mattered.

Texans at Patriots ticked to three with the total sliding; our brass-balls move is under.

I’m getting pulled to New England minus three with Nico Collins likely out and Christian Gonzalez trending in; Drake May’s legs can punish Houston’s rush, and I see this total pushing toward thirty nine and a half.

I’m far more comfortable with the under than the side.

Bears–Rams: it’ll feel like negative temps, Stafford’s finger is tender, and the scuba-suit lore is real, but the Rams can just ride the run against a leaky Chicago front missing TJ Edwards.

Public is all Bears; pros are split. Stafford’s handled cold before, yet the finger is the X-factor—I’m leaning Rams and love the first half under.

I like the full-game under and first half under; both sides favor ground-and-pound early, and cold hands can mean fumbles late.

If Bryce Young carved this Rams defense, Ben Johnson and Caleb can too, but McVay leans run with a lead; I’ll likely take Rams in contests and the first half under.

Yep, Pats might end up my largest, and I’ll keep hitting the first half under until it dips below twenty three and a half.

College bonus time: I’m an IU alum headed to Hard Rock for the title game—Doc Nunn joins us. For anyone who missed the ride, how big is what Kurt Signetti has built?

He’s nailed culture and execution, taking IU from three and nine and quadruple overtime versus Akron to fifteen and zero; I’ll call it the greatest coaching job in college athletics.

Hard Rock Bet pegs the Hurricanes’ home edge at about two points, closer to neutral than true home. Feels right to me; IU fans will flood the place.

Agreed—off-campus stadium, late-arriving crowds, and a national-title split audience means no intimidating home vibe.

Fans aside, coaching is the edge. Doc, what’s your favorite bet?

Indiana minus eight and a half. Miami is highly penalized, IU is elite in the red zone and on special teams, and the Hoosiers tackle and win the trenches better.

Florida handle leans Miami, but sharps popped IU early, including a six-figure wager at minus six and a half. Any exotics?

Charlie Becker over two and a half receptions, first quarter under, and a fun punt-punt plus first quarter under start if you want a small parlay.
