Episode summary
This AI-generated Shortcast summary may omit nuance. Use the original episode when context or exact wording matters.
What if all that scrolling, comparing, and constant stimulation is pulling us away from ourselves? We’re wired into everything, yet people feel isolated and anxious. The way back takes resistance: put down the mindless feed, reconnect, create, and let your own light come back on.
Welcome to BrightVideos. I’m Mike Adams, joined by filmmaker Mickey Willis and his son Azai, fifteen and already launching his second film. Azai, tell people about Shine.
Shine is a short documentary for my generation about waking up, finding your light, and not letting the darker stuff around us make us hopeless. Don’t just sit there consuming your life. Remember you can do something with it.
We’re putting it out free online, everywhere we can. I learned in 2020 that you bypass gatekeepers by putting work straight into people’s hands. A central link can get wiped out; decentralized distribution is much harder to stop.
I grew up watching my dad make work he felt mattered. I saw that film can affect the world, and I wanted to be part of that. My friends have been supportive, which gives me hope. We’ve grown up around internet weirdness, so my brother and I sometimes tell Dad, “That’s AI. That isn’t real.”
It’s humbling. I’ve stared at footage for thirty-five years and AI can still fool me, but my boys clock it instantly. Technology can serve you as a tool, or turn into a weapon used against you.
That’s a big part of Shine: get off the couch sometimes, learn skills, develop abilities, and make a difference beyond yourself. If we only absorb information, that affects our families and the world. We’re becoming the workers, teachers, and leaders. We have to step up.
When I defended the Covington students, people who supported me turned on me because I broke with their preferred story. Then came the pandemic films, threats, and professional fallout. But I didn’t lose friends—I lost people I’d mistaken for friends. If you pursue truth and life, you may lose a round, but status and possessions won’t replace knowing you did what you came here to do.
Jeff Hoffman told us, “Don’t chase money; pursue excellence, and money follows.” If you chase good principles and work that helps people, you don’t have to obsess over success. For Shine, success means people use it in their lives and it makes a real difference.
My next film is going into frequency, vibration, and how connected we are. We’re looking at phonk and heavily distorted music. It gives you an exciting rush, but after hearing it more, I thought, this really doesn’t feel good for me. We’re asking whether repeated disharmony makes people less able to recognize harmony, even in speech and truth.
I heard one of his edits and said, “The cutting is great, but what on earth is that music?” I’m not trying to be the out-of-touch dad calling it devil music, but music is powerful. Our working thesis is that accepting distortion as normal could weaken our ability to sense what rings true.
AI is another tool question. We made a hybrid music video with real performances and AI imagery that conventional production couldn’t afford. I value human-made work, but if human creative vision can use these tools to make a powerful, positive story without Hollywood money, I welcome that.
The heart and mind of the human being have to direct the tools. We should use technology for pro-human work rather than leave it to people who want to deceive. Mickey, thank you for your courage, and Azai, I’m excited to see Shine and the films ahead. Keep creating, keep questioning.
Thank you, Mike. People like you made it easier for me to take my own risks. We’ve got projects coming around cryptocurrency, digital identity, lawfare cases, and Bad Medicine, about what happened in hospitals during COVID. Everything I’ve released in recent years is free at Plandemic.com. We’ll keep going.
