Australia’s great—friendly, fun people—but man, that flight is a haul. Longevity has become everybody’s obsession now: cold plunges, saunas, red light, all of it. The real win isn’t merely lasting longer; it’s feeling better while you’re alive.

That interest exploded around the pandemic, when people suddenly felt mortal. There are basic things you can do, or quit doing, that may add roughly 15 years. Aging research has moved from speculation into real experiments.

Saying we could reverse aging once sounded like scientific heresy. But if we understand why bodies decline, why couldn’t we repair that process?

We found a root cause across cells, and genes that can slow it. In animals, cells could be reset safely. Now the first human study of a potential age-reversal treatment is underway, beginning with vision loss and glaucoma.

We use a harmless, virus-like delivery capsule, not an infectious virus, to target cells at the back of the eye. It carries three genes, OSK, also called ER-100. The goal is making damaged retinal cells act young again, not turning somebody into a baby or a pile of stem cells.

The first volunteer was nearly blind in one eye, so I get why he’d say, “Let’s fucking go.” But this sounds like the beginning of every zombie movie. What keeps it from going terribly wrong?

It’s FDA-cleared because of extensive safety work, and nothing bad has happened so far. The eye is contained, so it’s a sensible first target. Old cells lose their working identity, while a younger instruction set survives inside them. OSK appears to restore youthful function without erasing what a cell is supposed to be.

That could be enormous for glaucoma, macular degeneration, and injuries. My left knee is always a pain from martial arts, meniscus surgery, and an ACL problem. Damaged cartilage is a different beast.

In mice, we’ve seen optic nerves regrow and injured tissues recover. Related work has improved muscle and bone in mice with bad joints. I think we’ll rebuild body parts and joints eventually—though sports will have to figure out the super-soldier problem.

Once athletes can regenerate, every league will be full of freaks leaping halfway across the court. And if we get home robots before that, the real chaos may be sex robots telling everybody they’re amazing. Real people tell you when you’re being fucking annoying.

AI is changing science at ridiculous speed. We can computationally screen enormous compound libraries against protein targets, narrow them to a few hundred candidates, then test them in human cells. Work that once seemed like centuries can collapse into months.

We can take cells from someone in their nineties and shift biological markers toward their twenties. That doesn’t mean making people twenty tomorrow. The hard part is delivering it safely, controlling where it acts, and knowing when to stop.

If people had centuries of healthy life, they could keep learning and building instead of getting one short run. Fifty-nine already looks wildly different from fifty-nine in the 1930s: less smoking and drinking like maniacs, more knowledge about sleep, training, and nutrition.

Our mouse cocktail is still secret and only in animals, but older mice taking it three days a week became stronger, fitter, and better at memory tasks within a month. We think it resets chemical tags on DNA. The biological clock may not just measure aging; changing it may help drive aging backward.

That could matter for the brain. Young brains heal and learn better, and animal work suggests rejuvenated brains improve cognition. I believe lost memories in Alzheimer’s may remain there but become inaccessible. Restoring a younger state may tackle diseases that now look impossible.

Kids show you that healing power. They get cut or bang their head, and days later it’s gone. On me, that same injury would hang around forever. A face cream that restored that kind of repair would make a lot of people interested.

We’re growing human hair tissue on mice and looking at restoring hair growth. I take low-dose tadalafil myself, partly for hair and prostate benefits, though nobody should treat any drug as universal advice. Individual reactions vary, and medical supervision matters.

That’s crucial with GLP-1 drugs too. They’ve changed lives for people stuck in severe food addiction, but they aren’t risk-free. A friend had a terrible reaction; others lost weight, started exercising, and transformed everything.

A GLP-1 made it easier for me to stop nighttime snacking, and after discontinuing it, I could fast without feeling trapped by appetite. Ketosis and fasting can help clear older proteins, but that doesn’t mean everybody should copy me.

Diet massively affects my mental sharpness. I’m mostly meat and fermented vegetables, and I can go a day without eating. I use ketones and nootropics before long UFC broadcasts because six straight hours of live analysis will fry your brain.

Exercise is still what I need to improve. Hormesis—temporary stress that builds resilience—is part of why training and fasting can help. I’ve told myself I’m too busy, which is bullshit. I need a trainer.

Get one and begin gently. Don’t turn a sedentary person into a boot-camp casualty. Start walking, basic bodyweight work, easy kettlebells, and write it down. Leave energized, build consistency, and create momentum—not puke in a trash can and quit tomorrow.

The boring foundations matter: don’t smoke, don’t overdrink, sleep, train, and keep good relationships. Chronic stress speeds biological aging. COVID was brutal for me, but I’m happy now, with a partner who shares my interest in longevity.

Relationships are huge. Bad ones can wreck your health. It’s better to be alone than desperately wish you were, and you’ve got to become someone a good person would want to be around. Social media keeps people in fight-or-flight about every crisis on Earth. Focus on useful work where you have skill.

My mission came from my grandmother. She survived the war, said people can be cruel and we should make the world better. She also said everybody dies. Every day, aging-related illness harms an extraordinary number of people, so my lab feels urgent.

AI could accelerate that mission, but it has dangers. Someone in my lab used AI and global biology databases to find evidence for a theory in two weeks that established researchers hadn’t resolved. The tools that design medicines could also make biosecurity risks easier.

The bio-weapons conversation is terrifying, but the upside is bananas. If bodies retain a blueprint for healthy function, maybe we repair diseases, injuries, even regrow limbs. Salamanders do it; perhaps we shut down abilities we still partly possess.

I’d put full limb regeneration a couple of decades away, realistically, but progress is moving faster than people grasp. More companies are entering this field, and I welcome competition. This is about changing what disease and frailty mean for humanity.

You’re doing God’s work, man. More funding means more trials can run at once. Feeling good isn’t trivial—it gives you more life force for whatever you love doing.
