Episode summary

All right, let's rock. Give me revenue, the business, and the snag.

I’m Matthew, we deliver premium catering for milestone celebrations in Sydney, at about 2.8 million this year with roughly 40 percent net and a goal of 8 million in two years. Sixty five percent of revenue hits in six months, so I either turn away summer demand or carry extra staff through winter.

Seasonality comes with the territory in many trades. When is your slow stretch and why, and are you leaning into corporate or holiday demand?

Winter just is not as celebratory, and while we do corporate, the spend per event is lower so margins compress, which is why we target private events.

Catering happens year round, so I’m not convinced the business itself has to be that seasonal.

We focus on large events of roughly sixty to one hundred guests, and summer’s end of year corporate parties push us past capacity, then winter drops back, though we stay profitable.

How do people find you, and what stops you from pushing more paid traffic; is it unprofitable or just capped?

Search volume dips in winter, but lifetime value is strong at approximately twelve to one, and we get a big share from SEO and Google Ads with Meta more for awareness. I’ve considered adding a pre-set corporate delivery line to smooth demand, but I worry it becomes a distracting second business.

You’re profitable year round, so this is volatility, not danger; think of a holiday chocolate brand that makes most of its profit in December. Because the pattern is predictable, plan around it rather than trying to redesign the model.

If doubling is as simple as hiring and scaling ads, what is actually in the way?

Nothing serious; we can spend more and staff up because ops are efficient.

Then double down on what works, crack Meta ads, and skip the side line you do not need. Use the theory of constraints as your filter: focus your limited time and attention on scaling PPC and Meta, and let competitors chase shiny ideas while you execute the predictable cycle.

Got it, thanks for the clarity and the push.

Congrats on building a healthy engine, keep going, and we’ll talk soon; bye.
