About this episode
Victor Wembanyama doesn’t even need to start to completely flip a game on its head. On this episode of The Alley Oop Basketball Show on DLS Hoops, Juju Gotti and Trysta Krick break down how Wemby lifted the Spurs just by coming off the bench — blocking everything in sight, dominating the paint, and casually stuffing the stat sheet like it’s light work. The hosts also dig into the growing tension between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks — is this the beginning of a real breakup, or just another NBA power struggle brewing behind the scenes? And finally… Steph Curry might be the only superstar in the league who can sell shoes while barely wearing his own. Juju and Trysta react to Steph rocking seemingly every sneaker brand except his own, and what that says about sneaker culture, endorsements, and Curry’s legacy. From generational talent to franchise drama to sneaker comedy — this episode has it all. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Episode summary
How you feeling today, sis? I’m staring at your jersey like we’re at the cookout cracking up, and I’m guessing you’re rocking Penny Hardaway, not five, not Jalen Suggs, even though he was tearing up the Cup before that injury.
Let’s jump straight to the Cup because it’s fun now. Folks can clown banners, but give it time and this tournament will matter, just like every other cup around the world; run it every season and history will do the rest.
Shoutout to New York, but I’ve got to talk about San Antonio and that return game; I was courtside as the building chanted for Wemby, they were down big, and he flipped the vibe in minutes, slicing the lead before half and turning the paint into a do-not-enter zone.
The second he checked in the whole soundtrack changed, and he affected everything at once—shots, boards, blocks, even the push in transition—so I’m saying the Spurs shouldn’t chase Giannis at all.
They’ve got serious speed, wings finding their groove, and young guards who pressure the rim and defend like a mini Oklahoma City; adding Giannis would wreck the recipe, like tossing tri-tip in gumbo, which brings us to Milwaukee trying to make one last big move to keep him.
That’s the club at closing time—wait too long and the lights come on, everybody’s taken, and you head home solo; keep stalling and they’ll end up empty-handed.
At some point you have to move him before the market dries up; this feels like a partner begging for counseling after papers are filed, but the assets are gone and the only real lever left is a trade.
Meanwhile, Steph is on a crazy shoe tour, lacing up pairs from A’ja to Ant and making every arena his runway.
Seeing him in AE Ones, Sabrina’s, and A’ja’s says a lot—he keeps spotlighting the women’s game, pushed Under Armour to sign stars like Caitlin and Sabrina, and now he is rocking heat nightly while still looking like he downloaded an AI upgrade.
He’s dropping tunnel dimes from impossible angles like an alien, which is perfect timing because it’s Boy, stop.
First up, there was debate over who should shoot that tech.
I walked to the stripe, would have been fine with Luka taking it, missed that one but cashed the next.
We usually designate the shooter; it varies by team and situation, but Luka should have taken that one.
You have to have a plan for techs; LeBron grabbing it like why not is wild—because you are not the primary closer there anymore.
Exactly, your late-game free throws are shaky, people say you avoid those spots, then you volunteer for the pressure one—boy, stop.
Next, Darius Garland set a screen on himself, coughed it up, and gift-wrapped a layup to the Hornets; boy, stop.
That looked like a full physical exam; turn and cough energy.
How do you run into your own screen and face-plant a basic action like that?
Now a no-look pass that went all the way left.
Terry Rozier had a wide open dunk and threw a blind dime to Marcus Smart instead; that’s a turnover platter.
Smart and Rozier have that scrappy, chaos-leaning vibe, but this was straight out of a caper gone wrong.
Clean it up, Smart; too many of those this year, and my sis is reporting live from a house that looks like a thriller set.
I’m in LA with a five-pound guard dog and a sign on the window; roll the Wemby clip—boy stop or boy GOAT?
Why they got you tucked under the stairs like Harry Potter, sis? The ocean light is wild.
I’m a professional, had to avoid the backlight.
So is Wemby just using his gifts or clowning the vertically challenged?
He literally stepped over a gate like it was a shoelace; that’s the same kind of barrier we had to get into that NFL event.
I would eat the pavement trying that; that gate wobbles and you are done.
I would not make it either; he is ridiculous.
Too many Boy, stops to hit today, and trade season just opened, so the rumor mill is about to spin; next episode we’re live in Miami, and I’m curious which jersey you bring.
No spoilers on the jersey, but thanks for rocking with us; love to Ms. Rebecca and the crew, we appreciate y’all.
