Anthony Davis is suddenly a Washington Wizard, Jared McCain lands in Oklahoma City, Coby White goes to Charlotte, and Chris Paul got moved in a salary play tied to Ochai Agbaji and a pick to the Nets. Why does Anthony Davis to Washington feel so bizarre? The upside is real and it shifts talent East, but the Wizards paid in draft capital, which trims future flexibility. I liked their Trae Young swing because it cost almost nothing and lined up with their timeline. This one is pricier, and even if the cap timing is fine, those two firsts and three seconds can matter when you need to pounce for the perfect missing piece a couple of years from now.

How do AD, Alex Sarr, and Trae Young fit on the floor? AD plus Sarr gives you a terrifying dual rim-protection shell that works in zone, drop, and blitz looks, with a low-man safety net all over the back line. On offense, Trae is an elite passer who dices up drop, and AD is a more reliable switch-punisher than many bigs, so their two-man game should produce lobs, short-roll reads, and kickouts to shooters like Tre Johnson.

Does this make Washington a contender? Not unless the kids pop fast. AD will be thirty-three soon and the durability risk is real. This kind of bet made more sense for a team like the Warriors that needed to maximize right now. If AD misses time next year, you spent valuable picks, you are still paying your young core soon, and you are less equipped to buy the exact role player you will inevitably need.

How did Dallas do on the AD exit? Given the reset after moving Luka, two firsts for AD is a strong haul. I would never have closed a live title window by trading Luka, but if you are starting over, stocking picks to build around Cooper Flagg is the smart play.
