Decision‑makers taught guys it’s smart to sit, and no incentive can fix that until the top‑down culture says the league’s health depends on you suiting up.

I like Miami to upset Charlotte by hounding Lamelo, living in drop, and making him a scorer while their thin wings feel the pressure. Phoenix should handle Portland, the Clippers are better than Golden State right now, and Philly‑Orlando is messy without Embiid; my favorite betting angle is Miami over Charlotte.

Which small‑market team can become a public darling the way Golden State did, OKC or San Antonio?

San Antonio has the better shot because Wemby’s game and personality are appointment TV, while OKC’s stars are brilliant but lower sizzle. Don’t bury Charlotte either, since Lamelo’s on‑off impact is massive and the style is fun when they start stacking wins.

I can’t jump on the Hornets bandwagon, because Lamelo’s game is great but I just can’t get past the persona.

These games turn into matchup hunting on both ends, but New York can live on the glass with Josh Hart and pick on weaker guards, while their opponent will chase Brunson and hope for mistakes. In the end you’re asking secondary ball handlers to out‑execute Brunson four times, so expect tight games and maybe a home win or two the other way, but I don’t see a full upset.

I love Brunson and Hart, but the constant silly fouls and meltdowns from certain bigs drive me nuts, so I can’t fully love this team. The soap‑opera energy is what keeps the league addictive though.

Brunson’s impact is enormous even if the style isn’t flashy, and this roster shifted from lunch‑pail grit to higher talent that often underwhelms against elite teams. They don’t deliver the highlight thunder Boston’s wings can, which affects how likable they feel.

Name four crafty, under‑the‑rim difference‑makers in that Brunson mold.

Alperen Sengun punishes with footwork and touch, Aaron Gordon is a clutch, two‑way glue who lifts Denver everywhere, Derrick White is a connective engine and top defender, and Jaden McDaniels is an elite stopper whose jumper and on‑ball creation took a leap.

Futures before tip: who’s real value against an OKC team that looks loaded?

San Antonio resting key bigs on Sunday accidentally cleared OKC’s path, so they likely breeze to the conference finals and have a strong edge on Denver, a matchup they’ve solved, while Boston would be an underdog in June. My favorite shot at chaos is Minnesota as a live dog versus Denver; otherwise you need San Antonio to flip Denver before OKC shows up.
