I don’t buy the MVP talk, but that version absolutely outplayed Shai and shows a path to true top-tier status if he locks in that process with consistency.

Who else popped for Boston? Tatum’s quick burst steadied them. Derrick White’s back-to-back threes halted a Thunder push. Payton Pritchard and Baylor Shireman worked the gaps off-ball, with smart relocations and timely threes. Neemias Queta added muscle and short-roll playmaking out of their pet stacked pick-and-roll. Even after a cold start, Sam Hauser hit two big ones. The second-half offense was elite against an elite defense.

Did the defense travel? Yes, and with options. Their deep drop worked when the on-ball fight was strong and the big protected the rim without over-helping. Then they toggled into matchup tweaks that jammed OKC’s pet actions and funneled shots to weaker spacers. That’s the versatile toolkit I needed to see. I now trust Boston above the East pack and like their chances against anyone out West.

What on earth happened in Houston–Minnesota? I turned it off twice. Minnesota controlled most of the night, Houston roared back late behind a ferocious defensive burst from Sengun and a two-man surge with Kevin Durant, Gobert authored an absurd iso block to save regulation, and Houston then blitzed overtime with a run that flipped the game on its head.

So how did it flip again? A few lazy Houston possessions cracked the door. Missed rotations, a blown boxout, an eight-second violation under token pressure, and a backcut layup reignited the Wolves. From there, sloppy doubles and spacing gaffes reappeared. Sengun’s late positioning slipped after his brilliant surge. More turnovers from the stars, whistles flying, Gobert fouling out, even a head-scratching ejection. Minnesota steadied, hit timely shots, and walked it down.

Takeaways. The Wolves have a terrifying defensive ceiling and enough shot creation to ride waves. Houston has bite and size, but the mix of ballhandling under heat and low collective skill and feel around their stars makes playoff problem-solving hard. If the Lakers hold the three seed, Houston’s their best draw, though not a layup. Minnesota is the scarier out. Seeding in the West can still swing, so nothing’s locked.
