It’s Joey P, back with our way-too-early 2026 running back ranks, debating what the consensus got right and what’s off, from the Bijan and Gibbs no-brainers at the top to a spicy CMC at three and a crowded Tier 2 behind them.

I’m well below consensus on Christian McCaffrey at RB10 because history punishes touch leaders the next season, his rushing slipped, and George Kittle’s early absence last year showed how much that blocking matters; I’m fine passing on him at the top of the first.

Jake, on Ashton Jeanty, you’re lower than consensus; rookie QB, rookie coach, and a shaky line scream patience—what else keeps him outside your top ten?

On CMC, receiving keeps his floor high and I’m not panicking over 30, but I’m baking in risk, so he’s my RB3 and seventh overall with elite wideouts ahead.

Jeanty is a monster after contact, but the line was bottom-tier and the ecosystem is new; volume is strong, ceiling depends on real line upgrades, so I’m at RB11.

Chase Brown looked ordinary until competent QB play arrived, then he ripped off RB7 per-game from midseason on and RB3 with Joe Burrow back; even while splitting snaps, he earned targets and explosive work, so I’ve got him RB7.

I love the player, but I’m guarding against a free-agent timeshare showing up in Cincinnati; that threat nudges Brown to RB12 for me.

Kyren Williams time: consensus has him mid-teens, but he keeps producing like a top-10 back.

People keep trying to replace Kyren, but McVay’s usage and his new deal say otherwise—he’s been a top-10 scorer whenever he plays; as long as Stafford’s in place, he belongs near RB10.

Breece Hall next—Andrew, you nudged him into RB1 territory.

He’s a fantasy RB1 if he’s not a Jet; if he’s stuck in that offense he’s closer to RB18, but on teams like Arizona, Kansas City, or Houston he has proven top-five upside with three-down chops.

Jeremiah Love is already being pushed as an RB1; you’re cooler at RB15—why?

Landing spot will move him, but first-round rookie backs usually settle around RB18 as rookies; he’s talented enough to beat that on the right team, yet history says temper expectations and pounce in year two.

If he lands with the Chiefs the market will overreact into top-five pricing, and that’s the trap; right team puts him around RB7 or RB8, but draft with a clear head.

Cam Skatteboo—fun tape, rugged style—why are you modest at rank 20s, Jake?

Harbaugh could ride him, but his crash-through-everything approach invites hits and a committee makes sense; he’s a lead in a split, so he trails clearer workhorses.

Kyle Monangai is my Chicago deep-dish runner—RB3 right now unless the room clears; fair?

I’m lower because DeAndre Swift blocks a true lead role, even though Monangai’s ball security and efficiency fit Ben Johnson’s scheme; if Swift moves on, I’ll move him up.

Swift can be cut for real savings, so Monangai has a path to a bigger job.

Tony Pollard finished hot, but you buried him, Jake.

He’s replacement-level without heavy volume and Brian Daboll loves committees; best case is a split, so the downside outweighs the upside at his consensus price.

Patriots backfield—sell me on TreVeyon Henderson eating into Rhamondre Stevenson.

Pass protection growth and late-season usage trends point to a near-even split when both are healthy; I expect Henderson’s role to expand, which dings Stevenson’s ceiling.

Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard—quick hits, Jake.

Neither looks like a long-term answer; Dowdle wants a lead role but likely lands in another split, and Carolina should add a real challenger or see if Jonathan Brooks bounces back—if they do nothing, we’ll adjust up.

Woody Marks is ranked mid-30s—Andrew, you faded him hard.

He was inefficient across the board, rarely forced misses, and struggled to stay on the field; Houston should add competition and slide him into a lighter receiving role at best.

Outside the top 36, you circled Sean Tucker, Jake.

If Rashad White walks and depth stays thin, Tucker’s a clean complement to Bucky Irving with direct contingency value given Irving’s injury history.

Andrew, you pushed Tyler Allgeier into the RB2 mix—banking on a new home?

He’s low-mileage with a thousand-yard rookie season and was stuck behind Bijan; Atlanta won’t pay two starters, so he can find a legit lead job elsewhere.
