Louis, you’ve got three boys. What made you want to make this documentary?

As a dad, I watched my sons get blasted by Andrew Tate clips and manosphere content and thought, what is this and why is it everywhere? As a filmmaker, it felt like a final boss for me: part wrestling, part rap bravado, part cult, all juiced by algorithms and k-fabe.

So much online plays with that is-it-a-bit or is-it-real vibe, and the joke defense only goes so far before it hits reality.

We all perform personas now, and irony can mask belief; at some point a joke stops being a joke. I wanted to take the subject seriously without fueling a moral panic, while also calling out the flood of nonsense like flat earth and moon hoax claims.

It feels like memeable catchphrases have replaced the old movie-quote era, but the line between entertainment and life is now a smear, especially in live streams.

Kids now dream of being YouTubers, the stage has no gatekeepers, and the algorithm rewards heat over care. Behind the swagger is often an upsell to shaky courses, crypto, and trading schemes.

Why has this especially clustered around men?

There’s a female version through IG beauty culture, but for boys it’s parasocial connection and status signaling with cars, cash, and muscle, and the audience skews shockingly young. Even nine-year-olds come up starstruck.

Maybe older men can parse it, but kids struggle to tell if it is turned up for laughs or meant straight.

Even in a different century this would have seduced young men; the algorithm just turbocharges it. Tate borrows from pimp lore, wraps it as life hacks, and the spectacle spreads.

What do you think this world is trying to fix?

Mainly their own bank accounts, by pulling on tribal and sexual reflexes. They pitch anti-woke cheat codes like old pickup artistry, while I was raised with feminist values and see a sample bias built on cam girls and IG models.

I get called manosphere-adjacent, yet what I see is creators cloaking fame and money as a bigger mission. Is that fair?

Yes; outrage farms clicks and gets walked back later. The extreme edge is conspiratorial, clickbait-heavy, and grifty, often rooted in chaotic childhoods like Tate’s.

You said in the film the bravado and riches were often smoke and mirrors, and the anger covered fear of being exposed.

They promise wealth through trading or hacks but usually got rich by streaming and selling to fans. Tate sold pimping know-how while admitting it only works if you are him, which tells you everything.

How much of this traces back to childhood?

A lot of trauma, father absence, and instability; that breeds a warrior mindset that reads the world as apocalyptic. The Tate brothers feel trauma-bonded and trust almost no one.

That usually invites sympathy.

I do feel empathy, and some of these guys were raised by the algorithm as much as by parents. Platforms are built to keep us scrolling, and none of us is immune.

These black-box feeds both predict and push preferences, and they shape creators too; audience capture rewards red meat. I watched an IRL streamer keep viewers on a permanent cliffhanger because any payoff drops the numbers.

That feedback loop scrambles identity until you barely know who you are. How exactly does the nudging work?

It funnels users down reliable paths based on similar people, nudging them into more predictable buckets, often toward the edges.

We filmed a pred sting where a suspect got ambushed and beaten on stream; it felt like DIY dystopia. Chats goad creators into combat, and filming each other becomes gladiatorial.

IRL streams chase endless escalation to keep dopamine and headcount up.

The ratings are live, and clippers blast out hundreds of micro-edits within hours. My kids had already seen our shoot chopped into their feeds before I got home.

That feels like being publicly surveilled in real time.

I’m protective of being seen as dad, not a comic foil on someone’s stream, yet we live in a self-built panopticon where everyone watches everyone.

It’s hard to talk about men’s issues without being filed under a swollen label that lumps me with people I disagree with.

What kind of blowback have you had?

Manosphere voices say I am blue-pilled, and legacy media paints me as misogynist; the word manosphere has been stretched until it says nothing.

Agreed; my film zeroes in on the extreme cluster around Tate, Sneako, Waller, and Fresh and Fit, not the broad world of men’s self-improvement.

There are real struggles for boys and men and a shortage of role models, yet a moral panic smears even balanced work; I was even called a looks-maxer. Two realities are colliding at once.

Nicely put, and speaking of that, have you watched the clavicular wave?

Do you plan to cover the looks-maxing world?

He exploded after we wrapped, a handsome avatar using live streaming to gamify beauty and status. It is another mask in the social media game.

I see three waves: pickup, then red pill, and now a black pill–ish looks-maxing that elevates male-on-male status and appearance over competence or women’s approval.

It echoes MGTOW, and the medium matters; live streaming builds attachment without a doctrine. His stunt endorsement of a better-looking politician was a brilliant way to irk the red pill.

What do you actually agree with them on?

Acknowledge sex differences without turning them into cages, and push self-reliance and fitness while ditching games and porn. I reject the toxic packaging, flex culture, and get-rich seminars; build something real instead.

If you flaunt wealth, you attract people who want wealth, which then confirms your worst beliefs.

The body-count obsession and demand for virgins clash with a lifestyle steeped in OnlyFans Miami. If you want traditional, do not shop for it in a nightclub economy.

Miami and Vegas are caricatures of that currency.

Valuing only IG clout ignores craft, service, and study; it is a narrow lens for life.

Men have fallen fast in many metrics, and there is a hunger for guidance; who would you point your boys toward?

Gareth Southgate and David Attenborough embody dignity and wonder. Men still dominate football, rap, and much of comedy, for better or worse.

Men cluster at the extremes, but the average guy is slipping into stagnation and addiction and needs compassion.

Do not saddle boys with ancestral guilt; tech and AI will disrupt work even more, and the gender story will keep shifting.

That upheaval makes sympathy essential; many young men feel blamed for a patriarchy they do not experience and hear they are born without value.

Two fans told Justin Waller exactly that, but it is a Miami-Instagram metric masquerading as truth. There are many ways to have value that a yacht invite will never measure.

Those cities are built to trade on that surface game.

Marie Curie did not win Nobels by chasing followers; success rarely rests on clout.

I choose friends for depth, patience, and curiosity, not flash; this new wave cosplays masculinity with surgery and styling instead of character.

Life-hack seduction feels hollow up close and is a limited way to live.

Performing masculinity is not embodying it; PUA disillusionment birthed red and black pill cynicism, and chasing more medals rarely fixes the void. You either look inward or you keep upping the dose.

I have to run and pick up my child, but I loved this conversation.
