I still tell people about your crib with the real two-lane setup; how’d that happen?

I built that house from the ground up because I’m a serious bowler, and I did it right, which is funny since I didn’t even put a hoop in to keep some distance from the game.

Your Christ the King squad was stacked; what did that run feel like and why Hofstra?

We had an all-time high school team, but I wasn’t the anointed one, so I committed early to Hofstra and stood on it when bigger programs called, and it turned into the best choice.

You’ve always been humble—where’s that from?

My five sisters and my brother kept me grounded and fueled me with doubt to prove wrong; I came in tiny, fought through JV, earned varsity, and kept stacking wins.

College fame can cook people—how’d you stay level, and what’s that story with your sister’s car?

I spoke things into existence and promised my sister I’d return the favor if she let me rock her new Explorer; when I made it, I got her a Lexus and kept my word.

You land in Philly with your idol, Allen Iverson; what was that like, and how did that dress code era hit?

Playing with A.I. was a dream, and when the suits came in I couldn’t afford those fines like he could, so I stayed sharp while he stayed himself.

Were you around for the iconic step-over, and how did you deal with injury that year?

I tore my ACL in preseason, so I watched that Finals run courtside while Larry Brown protected me from rushing back, then I rebuilt through a long rehab.

Give us the Spurs culture—Pop’s whole deal—and a little Tim Duncan color.

Pop defines roles and expects you to nail them, period, and the group bond was real; Tim even dragged us to paintball where he showed up like special ops with camo, walkie-talkies, and elite aim.

We joke about timelines, but social media would’ve changed everything back then, right?

I’m glad it didn’t exist when we were outside because today everything is one click away, so keep it clean or it’ll follow you.

Why do so many point guards become coaches?

We’re the on-court organizers, so sliding into leading a program is natural.

You saw the new wave up close—how’d that matchup with Zion go?

We respected the name, then took the win and kept it moving.

People love the Kobe versus LeBron talk; where do you land?

Kobe had that relentless edge, and while Bron often makes the right basketball play, sometimes you need to take the tough shot yourself; I’m grateful I caught eras with Mike, A.I., and Tim to measure it.

He switched onto me and said my name like he’d been scouting me forever, and I was so stunned I swung the ball, and later in the tunnel you could feel the building hush when he appeared.

How do you see today’s game, Wemby’s rise, and All-Star Weekend?

Regular season defense is watered down, I prefer playoff intensity, Wemby will be a problem once he adds strength, and the dunk contest needs stars again because when Bron skipped it the dominoes fell.

Coaching grind is real—how did you adapt, and what’s the Hofstra standard?

The hours shocked me at first with road trips and early office calls, so I built a culture on character, structure, and curfew, and I use my league relationships to spotlight guys who earn it.

Bringing Hofstra back to the tournament as head coach had to hit different.

It was full circle for me and the program, and the community love reminds me how tightly my name and Hofstra are linked.
