AI can behave unpredictably and hallucinate. If it proposes more dangerous pathogens than intended, we don’t have complete control. Designing sequences that can become real proteins seems incredibly dangerous.

AI has no morality. Lawsuits already allege systems encouraged self-harm or violence, so why assume it weighs human health while optimizing a pathogen? Gain-of-function is already insanity; adding AI pushes it further.

Even if there are medical upsides, human consequences are the question. Ask for one bacteria-targeting virus, and AI could go somewhere nobody intended.
