This Galaxy Fold is philosophical for me, man. Android’s openness let me study how phones worked, hunt flaws while developing military exploits, and dump my own device after sketchy travel. Apple made that much harder.

That’s the tradeoff: a closed system might be safer, while an open one lets capable people find the holes. Once the law calls something infrastructure, it can stretch forward into every new technology.

Exactly. The Patriot Act started around telecoms, then expanded into something far more usurpacious. Add FISA’s secretive court process, and the state can argue a supposed threat without meaningful adversarial scrutiny.

So OpenAI presumably has some formal or informal route for authorities seeking a person’s data. Every major hardware or software platform eventually runs into that.

There are official agreements for real threats, then quieter relationships around access and whether somebody can be reached. Allies can collect what another country is constrained from collecting and share it. Minimization sounds sensible, but the machinery removing incidentally collected information moves conveniently slow.

Technology moves ridiculously fast; legislation has staffing, votes, and pork attached. Builders almost always understand a new system better than the regulators, so government begins miles behind.

DARPA is a rare competent exception: holy-shit ideas that may never ship, hoping for useful spin-offs—pursue a faster Mars vehicle, get lighter, stronger carbon fiber. Otherwise, government is wildly incompetent.

Human intelligence and computer exploitation support each other. “Ethical hacking” is a silly name for finding structural cracks; white hats test companies and report what broke. Some vulnerabilities stay on the shelf for an emergency. A bank offered me that work after the military.

A victimless ransom, then: break your own system to toughen it. But if you need access, is the cheaper route usually a computer hack or a person?

Usually a person—ninety-five percent of the time, depending on the target. Teams assess every intelligence discipline and locate the weak point. A hardened satellite network may require money, presence, decryption, and tech; an insider can be cheaper. Signals and network operations verify a source’s claims, because one careless shortcut can expose everybody.

Pegasus was the public holy-shit phone implant: first a deceptive link, then hidden where quick forensics might miss it. That pager operation? The patience, sourcing, supply-chain manipulation, and target development must’ve taken years.

Adversaries pivot when technology gets exploited, or regress to something primitive. That’s asymmetric warfare: they ignore gentleman’s rules while big militaries built for symmetrical threats struggle to turn quickly.

Like cheap drones and battlefield countermeasures: every answer creates the next workaround. You can’t assume an expensive official system stays ahead because it has more money.

Money becomes the mission. In offensive cyber, leaders got hammered for not spending every dollar. If we delivered the effect with seventy percent of the budget, I called it success; the system called unspent funds failure. AI also makes mundane code dramatically faster, and criminals and states can build serious internal tools with technical data, repositories, GPUs, and servers.

The human side is stranger. Powerful people bend a room: everyone wants something, admires them, or fears getting it wrong. Reality gets bent around them and nobody behaves normally.

The best source handlers combine strict process with artistry: read motivation, stay patient, improvise when the plan gets punched in the mouth, and never abandon fundamentals. Digital traces make elite targets harder, so cover may require a real-seeming adjacent company, funded through layers, with a plausible reason to be in their orbit.

That’s why conspiracy talk exhausts me. Almost any event has an obvious explanation and a fourth-order deception. More information doesn’t always make me certain; sometimes I just think, dude, I have no idea.

I’m not a conspiracy guy. There’s good and bad in everything—a GLP-one can give somebody dangerously obese their life back. But government has outrun its limits: it taxes and regulates every corner, and its incentives reward expansion, not restraint. I joined the military to escape North Dakota and a rough family situation; I stayed believing in individual choice, families, freedom, and meaningful work. That’s what I’m betting on with my companies.
