A friend’s building a float-tank computer rig with a waterproof keyboard, mouse, and VR headset so he can code while weightless; the mouse is the hard part.

Our float tank’s pump just blew, but when it works it’s like mental noise disappears; no touch, no temperature change, no distractions, and your mind feels wide open.

I’ve never done it, but I’m obsessed with the science and might get one; that environment would be perfect for haptics or a neural interface.

That was my Oculus dream—feeling fully inside a game.

How young were you when you started?

I built VR prototypes at fourteen, a Rift prototype at sixteen, launched at nineteen, then sold to Facebook; John Carmack found my work on a forum, tried my headset, called it the best VR he’d seen, and later became Oculus CTO.

Carmack showed us Beat Saber; it’s wild.

It shattered the stereotype that VR is sedentary; it’s a legit workout and great for coordination.

Boxing games can smoke you too.

Servios made a popular one; funny enough, the founders and I worked together at an Army Research Lab.

Could VR and AI emulate a pro’s style for training?

It’s happening; I’ve talked with Logan and Jake Paul about VR training, and robot fighting leagues already use VR teleoperation—my dream is robots tuned to your abilities or to the greats so you can spar against your own style or theirs.

A robot could measure distance perfectly and pull punches, which is what you want from a safe sparring partner.

Exactly—fast reaction time plus sensors means it could stop a millimeter from your face.

Anyone building this now?

A longtime VR friend is running a teleoperated combat league with a big US–China event, though you might prefer watching that one at home.

I even wonder if robots could pull off anime-style multi-strike mechanics that are impossible for humans.

Humans are a poor template for fighting; I’d design something non-humanoid.

Same—our defense robots are specialized and rarely human-shaped; I’ve always imagined Terminators were humanoid either for deception or because the machine still mirrors its maker.

There was buzz about life signatures on an asteroid that got walked back; makes you wonder who’s throttling disclosure.

If anything, it’s microbes; with UAPs the real issue is single-sensor sightings—camera or radar alone can be spoofed, and the Hellfire clip entered in a congressional hearing is interesting but needs multi-sensor confirmation.

James Fox’s docs are wild—like that Varginha, Brazil crash where a cop handled a creature, got a weird infection, and died; the town even has a statue.

After I finish my current mission, I want to be a privately funded X‑Files—badge up, bring my own plane and sensors, and bypass the travel and procurement bureaucracy that bogs down real investigations.

A new documentary argues disclosure is jammed up by legal exposure—misused funds, sweetheart deals to contractors—and pitches amnesty so people can finally talk.

A time‑boxed amnesty could work; meanwhile, government waste is massive, which is why I built Anduril to deliver better tech and save taxpayers real money where it’s concentrated, like in defense.

If these were private companies, they’d go under for this level of waste.

Right—and I’m encouraged by the Army leadership calling out overpriced parts, killing boondoggles, and showing you can 3D print a ten-dollar part that used to cost a fortune.

That recent watchdog wave made it okay to say, hey, this is billions in waste.

Exactly; five years ago no one in leadership admitted it, and now they do.

It’s a terrible way to compete with a state like China that runs tight civil–military integration.

Central planning has tradeoffs, but they punish graft hard; we don’t need to copy that, just move toward real accountability.

Should national security live fully in private hands for speed and innovation?

Development should be competitive—public and private—but strategy and who we sell to must stay with elected government; otherwise you get a corporateocracy deciding foreign policy.

Most people don’t have time to get informed.

Long-form shows make complex stories accessible, which is healthier than legacy outlets that need government access.

The UK is arresting people over posts and pushing digital IDs; it’s getting weird.

British culture is more comfortable policing offense—reminds me of an old forum admin who wanted rules against causing discomfort—whereas here that instinct is weaker; in China, most people accept censorship on old taboos as just keeping order.

In one‑party systems people feel they can’t change anything and stop trying.

That cynicism is a feature; the state’s strongest weapon is shaping minds, like Russian pilots told they’d be welcomed in Ukraine—one crashed with dress blues and a stash of condoms for the victory parade—and we’ve had our own illusions in the Middle East.

Desert Storm made the whole country think war would always be fast and clean.

Even my airline pilot grandpa came out of that believing we were unstoppable.

China’s electric cars look great and cost less.

They’re strong and cheap; some demos are tuned for a culture where the wealthy are driven, so ride comfort beats driver feel, and Tesla even sells a China‑specific rear‑seat layout.

Why aren’t they in the US market?

We block them; Americans say they want to buy domestic, but price wins—China’s costs are lower for energy, materials, and factories, so a three or four thousand dollar car there translates to twenty thousand here, and our cheapest cars are rough.

Manufacturing wins wars.

We won by converting auto plants to weapons; China would love to erase our auto base so we can’t surge, which is why Anduril designs missiles like Barracuda that any auto plant can build, while China runs automated missile lines and forces civilian ships to meet military specs.

Is a Taiwan move near?

We plan on a twenty twenty-seven window; I expect a blockade first, boiling the frog, so the US should be the world’s gun store—stocked, affordable, fast delivery—because Taiwan is twenty billion behind on US arms and Ukraine shows we don’t have enough inventory even for ourselves.

TV and the internet changed how we see war; Vietnam was sold on a lie.

Pressure ages presidents; Trump’s an outlier who functions on very little sleep, and some people are wired that way.

Sleep shortchanges my brain; you can hear it when I’m dragging.

I’ll do a mega‑sleep to reset and wonder if a long night would supercharge or derail Trump.

I wrote Trump at fifteen urging him to run because I wanted an outsider who’d signed both sides of a check; he’s been consistent on trade and growth, while Hillary’s no‑fly zone in Syria was a dangerous red line.

Old clips show she was once hardline on the border and opposed to gay marriage.

The state never should have claimed authority over marriage in the first place, and back then Trump spoke more permissively than many Democrats while people like Brendan Eich got punished for mainstream views of the time.

I met with Podesta in Silicon Valley and pressed him on the fifty‑five mile per hour speed limit and corn ethanol; he said they had no position, then rolled out ads promising more corn subsidies, which killed my trust and echoed early hints of government leaning on platforms about content.

When did that pressure campaign start?

Government has always tried to steer media, and that migrated to early internet forums and blogs; the dead internet theory feels real now that bots and astroturf drown out humans, and even Wikipedia activity clusters in suspicious places.

Let’s grab water and take a quick break—also, that copper jacket is outrageous in the best way.

It feels a little unreal, but I grew up idolizing the person who builds the gear, so ending up making tools and, now, weapons tracks with the stories that grabbed me as a kid.

Your early obsessions set your lane, and it is wild that you took it so far you are building systems that defend countries.

Oculus led to Silicon Valley, the same backers funded Anduril, and that momentum let us beat the big primes to build the Air Force’s first AI fighter, the FQ-44; unmanned wingmen change the playbook because you can take mission-first risks no pilot could.

With the New Jersey flap, I think a real odd event got drowned by a swarm of hobby drones once the internet piled on, and that muddies the waters.

Austin had the same vibe, everyone ran outside with drones.

What exactly was weird about it?

You got sensor mismatches and endurance that did not fit consumer drones, plus clips like the Hellfire shot where an object seemed to shrug off damage; I do not buy that it is hidden Chinese or Russian tech, so stranger categories might be in play.

Why is interstellar visitors less likely to you than time travel or dimension hopping?

We do not see the signatures you would expect across the cosmos, and dark forest ideas plus Hawking’s warning suggest broadcasting is dangerous; if you can bend spacetime, you might cross dimensions, so time or dimensional bleed feels more plausible than ships from many light years away.

A congressman even said there are ocean hotspots, like near the Channel Islands.

That area has long reports of craft diving into and blasting out of the water at steep angles without coming apart, which hints at a field that parts air and water and avoids heating and shock waves.

Then there is the breakaway civilization angle and ancient hints like star gates.

Some old claims do not hold up, but others are still odd, and I wonder if other Earth minds like whales carry long oral histories we have not decoded.

You are actually working on interspecies communication, right?

X Prize is shaping a challenge for reliable two-way talk with nonhuman species, and while uplift is too extreme for a prize, modern AI could finally crack cetacean grammar.

So a super-capable AI might find the patterns.

We see signs like names and dialects, but they also use ultrasound and phase tricks, so it is far beyond listening for simple words.

Look at Alex the African grey: he showed reasoning and even asked an existential question, and his tiny smooth brain suggests optimized circuits can do a lot, which makes targeted boosts feel within reach.

That lines up with the idea humans could be an accelerated project.

If uplift works in our hands, guided human evolution stops sounding crazy, and as a Christian I see symmetry with being made in a creator’s image and wanting to make minds in ours.

Humans also seem wired to keep making things better and new.

Novelty seeking drives progress while pure stasis can stall, and even if simple living feels right to many, we still need explorers and builders to push outward.

I also defend nostalgia when it spotlights what worked, even if some now try to paint that as reactionary.

Sixties cars were rolling art before the seventies slump, so that pull to the past is real.

Today cars and games drift toward subscriptions and paywalled features borrowed from tech, and that erodes craft.

People just add another auto pay.

The hobbyist era gave way to giant pipelines optimized for profit and data capture, with social logins and dark patterns most users accept.

And the industry is massive now.

Mission drift also came from chasing mythical new audiences and cultural agendas, and cheap money let bloat persist far too long.

Higher rates are forcing focus, and some studios are finally saying out loud they will make hits people actually want.

With all your wins, does life ever feel like a simulation?

I am spiritual and see overlap with simulation talk, because both describe a reality authored by a higher intelligence.

Walk me through that helmet and the glasses.

Our Eagle Eye fixes the old IVAS problems with a lighter, snag-free setup and ballistic-rated AR glasses, and it adds steerable audio so you can focus on a distant source.

The front shield swaps off, and you mentioned lasers.

Shields are modular for blast or laser protection, and if adversaries shift frequencies we just swap filters instead of replacing the whole system.

How do you power it?

There is a small reserve cell on the helmet, and the main power is a rear plate that is also a computer and a solid-state battery of roughly nine hundred watt hours, which saves around ten pounds and reduces snags and neck strain.

It can replace separate radios and bricks, and we suggest using it as the back plate so a chest hit does not knock out your systems.

The best part is hearing that the gear kept people alive, and if you care about ethics and competence you should be in defense rather than leaving it to someone less careful.
