With some heavy hitters missing the postseason, what storylines are you watching most?

Top of mind: can Josh Allen finally break through, because the path is there even as a six seed. I’m also watching whether any second-year QB makes a real run, if Aaron Rodgers can get hot, whether the Eagles can surprise everyone by repeating, and if the Rams or Seahawks rediscover that regular-season peak and look like the best team again.

Let’s hit Harbaugh. After all those years and a ring, he’s out—where do the Ravens go now?

They’ve already lined up interviews, and I thought Mike McDaniel as an OC somewhere would be fascinating, but the bigger point is this: keeping Lamar happy and committed mattered more than running it back with a strained coach-QB relationship. The next coach might not be better on paper, but a change could be what finally gets them over the hump.

If I’m Harbaugh, I wait a week and see if a premium job pops after a one-and-done—Philly, Buffalo, even Green Bay. Cincinnati should at least make the call and see if he’d bite. As for Lamar, the table’s set—new coach, big help around him—and he has to be both available and great; wild stat, he and Joe Burrow have played the same number of games over the last five years, while Mahomes and Allen have almost a full extra season of reps.

Your Chiefs are out, so you jumped on Buffalo—but they draw your Jags. You said the winner of Bills-Jags takes the AFC. Why?

In the playoffs, a superhero QB changes everything, and Allen is that. Jacksonville’s been the AFC’s best team for two months, though, and they can win anywhere; it feels like whoever survives this could run the table. It’s the game of the weekend.

One more wrinkle: every coach-QB duo that ever won a title together got their first within five years of pairing up. That puts a spotlight on Allen and McDermott; a first-round exit to a team people still underrate would crank the heat.
